89 volvo 740 gl manual
Most probably the electronic converter in the speedometer is broken and has to be replaced by a new one ore used one. It is a rather wellknown problem that an IC circuit in the electronic converter is getting broken or some electrolyte capacitor is broken by age.
The IC circuit problem is so common that in Sweden we have some companies offering an exchange system for the speedometer. I also have problems with the speedometer on my GL and also with the fuel gauge. Sometimes they working, but most of the time not and, of course, odometer also doesn't work, when speedometer is out.
As I could see, they do it togeter. However, RPM and temp gauge works fine. LaRy told, that fuel gauge and speedometer had common voltage stabilizer.
My question is, that is this stabilizer also common with temp gauge or not. So, could the stabilizer be also my problem, or I have something else? Thank you for the answers in advance, Tamas. Post by LaRy » Thu Sep 07, pm I have now made some investigations and have to correct myself.
According to what I can see in the electric diagram the voltage stabilizator is giving power to the temp gauge meter and the fuel gauge meter, nothing more. Post by sjh » Wed Nov 04, pm I have been dealing with no speedometer on my for almost 2 years now.
I finally got up some ambition and decided to look at the speed sensor on the differential. I had looked at it before and noticed that the wires that exited the connector were stripped and exposed from general wear.
I thought this might be the problem and wrapped them in electrical tape to keep them separated. On this page you can find the service manual for the Volvo , and Volvo Bertone Coupe. Cant get the stereo Wired in Properly. Bargain for quid on a twenty year old car thats still looks relatively good on the outside!! Good, Solid, Safe Vehicle. Had been fairly well maintained by previous 2 owners. Drove miles home in a blizzard, no problems. It's aa heavy vehicle they don't talk about "Swedish steel" fo nothing but feels very safe and solid. Tracks well, has acceptable acceleration for a 4-cylinder witj a ton and a half of body.
Four-wheel disk brakes are great, especially in a year-old car. The car is easy to work on, and parts are still available. Have had to replace headliner, and repair overdrive in the auto transmission. The "brick" appearance still looks a little dated, but is approaching classic status now. Am averaging about 20 MPG in combined suburban driving. Cons: year-old plastic trim pieces get brittle.
Love — We installed sway bars to our Turbo wagon and it corners like a sports car! We live in Minnesota and no signs of rust yet. I totally enjoy the comfort of driving thi car even if it's as old as it is.
I want another one!!! My "new" Car. Gets about 30 mpg. Exterior looks great, interior needs some work. Fun to drive. No discernible squeaks to be heard. No rattles. Only problem I've had is the heater broke, which takes about 5 mins. Pros: miles on ot, still runs like new. Read More. Loyal servant. Easy and cheap to maintain. From bodies are galvanized so it's fairly rust free. Fairly safe and fuel economy is decent when considering it's engine size and overall weight.
Mine h It is an awesome first car. Feels solid and sturdy on the road. Electronics are a bit iffy. I have a dim headlight The Mighty Glacier - it's slow and accelerates like a bad Jeremy Clarkson analogy, but sweet God is it sturdy. This thing took out a massive quad-cab super duty pickup truck and only lost a turn signa T had to repair lower ball joints for this replaced exhaust Great load carrier I am getting about 29 to 33 Mil This vehicle is a nice sedan, made when Volvo's were the best.
It has over k on it. Fairly good fuel economy. Im trying to make it to k. Its nice that the average person can use the self diagnos This was my first car, and I loved it! It took to much work to keep it running. Always in the shop. Loved it, but it nickled and dimed Although they have the reputation of being driven by people that qualify to own a free bus pass, the volvo is actually quite a good car.
